Iceland Telecom - Síminn

New web-based access to Anritsu MS9710 Optical Spectrum Analyzer for fiber cable. Vista Engineering has developed new remote access and control to this flexible instrument using the GPIB-port and remote connection via Ethernet. Now, the Anritsu MS9710 analyzer can be located at the measurement point and the staff can work the analyzer from any computer using Internet Explorer. Among advanced features in this new application is storing of waveforms and to compare one waveform to another. Several set-up can be stored and recalled for frequency, resolution bandwith and gain.

Iceland Civil Aviation Administration

New Airport Weather Information System
Vista Engineering has developed new Weather Information System for small airports. The system is based on Campbell Scientific's data loggers and weather instruments from Vaisala and others. The Weather Information System provides the Control Tower with real time weather data in several layers and trend lines, web-access to the weather data for other departments like fire department and maintenance department, and general web access to weather data if so adjusted. Further more, 10 minutes trendlines are build automatically and stored in database, with special web-based viewer for airport staff and others. All weather data, retrieved every one second from weather instruments, is stored for 6 months and then deleted, a function requested by FAA authorities.

Iceland Drilling Company LDT

New Drill Rig Information System
Vista Engineering has developed new Drill Rig Information System for all the drill rigs of Iceland Drilling Company. These drill rigs are mainly used for geothermal projects and the boreholes are 2.000 to 10.000 feet deep. The system is based on National Instruments FieldPoint I/O units. All vital drill rig activities are monitored and plotted on monitor in the Dog House. Drill String is prepared in software and drill rods are inserted as the work progress. Therefore, exact dept is always known. Amoung information calculated and recorded is drilling speed in m/h, torque, bottom weight, mud flow and movement of tower. Information is also displayed on Foremans monitor and on the Geolog's monitor in real-time. Data is also streamed to the main office using high-speed internet connection and published on web-site as a service for the customer. The databased information system allow customers to browse through informations about previous drill projects, either as graphs, XY graphs or data tables.

Iceland Hydrological Service and Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute

New digitizing of paper plots from flow meters
The Iceland Hydrological Service run a network of some 50 flow meters in rivers around Iceland. These flow meters used to record on paper rolls and some still do. There are tens of years of flow data kept on these hard-to-use paper rolls. Vista Engineering has developed a new method for digitizing plots from these paper rolls. Using common table-top A4 scanner as input device, the scanned images are processed, scaled, added to previous scans and corrected, with manual adjustments for flipping out-of-bound traces, and manual redraw and peak-finding. The output is digital water flow line with high resolution which is stored in the flow database. The third generation of this application is now in use.

Occidental Petroleum Corp and others in TX and other places:

Installation of automatic Data Retrieval Servers for retrieving Energy Data from Utilities meters, and Data Browsers / Cost Analyzers for browsing data, adding profiles, making reports and calculate energy cost.

City of Reykjavik:

Design, programming, installation and operating of Radio Remote Monitoring System for Sewage system. Also included in the system are several automatic weather stations. The system was started in 1993 but has been upgraded several times since.

Silfurtun Egg trays Machines:

Design of electrical and control of these automatic machines, programming of PLC-controllers, supervision of installation and testing. Over a period of several years, 25 different types of machines have been designed. Vista Engineering has maintaining these machines in countries like China, South-Korea, Malaysia, Grand Canary and Colombia.

Oceanography Laboratories in Iceland:

Automatic PC-based system for collecting measurements abroad research ship. The system, based on the LabVIEW software, tracks the ship using GPS-positioning unit, storing each measurement with GPS-time and GPS position. Included are displays for measurements and position.

Westman Islands, Iceland:

Remote control of land-based fresh water pumps, using PLC-network via radio-link. The PLC-program controls the high-pressure pumps using speed-drives in complicated manner. MMI-terminals on both ends make it possible for operators to interfere with the process.

Reykjavik City Theater: PLC-control of rotating stage. The system, using CRT-unit for control and display, makes it possible for operators to store cues in advance for rotating the stage clockwise or counterclockwise at different speeds, and at the same time selecting stop position with accuracy better that 0,1°.

National Instruments:

Vista Engineering is distributor for National Instruments of Austin, Texas, giving customers first class service. Vista Engineering has very good knowledge of LabVIEW, the programming language for automation.

Campbell Scientific, Inc.:

Vista Engineering is distributor for Campbell Scientific, Inc. of Utah, USA, a well-known maker of environmental data loggers and instruments. These loggers are built into virtually every automatic weather station in Iceland, and being used in energy logging projects as well.
